Reasons to Consider Legal Separation Instead of Divorce

Many couples try their best, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out for whatever reason. Sometimes though, couples jump the gun and get divorced before it’s truly in their best interests. While trying to work things out, some couples may benefit more from a legal separation.

In most cases, your state will probably require a legal separation for a period of time before granting a divorce. While separated, you two could work on some of your problems and decide if it’s better to stay together. If possible, it’s best to save the marriage before giving up.

Some people don’t have the luxury of getting a divorce. Some people are opposed to the idea of divorce because of religious or moral reasons. Although this doesn’t seem to be the case since there’s such a high divorce rate nowadays.

It’s also important to think about insurance coverage too. If you’re on your spouse’s insurance plan, then you will likely be dropped in the event of a divorce. You may be able to keep your insurance if you’re just separated.

This is also true when it comes to certain types of benefits. You may be entitled to a portion of your spouse’s benefits. This category definitely includes military spouses.

When thinking about getting a divorce, make sure you keep your children in mind. They certainly won’t like the idea of you and your partner getting a divorce. At least your marriage will still be in tact legally if you just got separated.

Just because someone moves out doesn’t mean you’re legally separated though. The court has to recognize the agreement. The terms of your separation now may play a role in your divorce.

Your divorce settlement may use some of the same condition as your separation agreement. Keep this in mind when the two of you are making it up.

These are some of the main reasons why you should consider getting legally separated instead of divorced. If you’re under your spouse’s plan, you may no longer have insurance. If the two of you haven’t tried everything possible, then you need to do so before getting divorced. A marriage expert has saved a lot of marriages.Doc No.lsdhhsdlh-sdlkjhsgd
